Why Individual Counselling
Counselling is a unique process for every individual. I will meet you where you are on your own journey of personal growth. Together we will explore what tools can further foster your ability to live your life with more confidence and ease. My intention is to offer you a balance of wisdom and compassion, supporting you when difficult emotions show up as well as helping you understand your mind’s inner workings.
As a counsellor, it is my priority to develop a relationship of compassion, trust, and respect with a client. You and I will sit together to discuss your story, history, and experiences and form a picture of your life. I want to get to know you and develop a relationship in which you are able to feel seen, heard and understood. I will respect and honour your trust and will do so throughout our time together. The first step is creating an environment where you feel safe enough to go deeper and move forward together, knowing that a compassionate space is being held for you.

My counselling style supports and guides you as you look within to further develop your self-awareness. We will talk and reflect on how you see the world and how those perceptions impact and affect you. I will help you understand the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and biology. We will explore your reactions to the world around you, their source and their effects.
We will work together on finding and understanding patterns, habits, difficulties, and narratives that have become obstacles to your living a life with peace in your mind and heart. It is a vital part of my role to help you process this information and to be able to guide you as you look inside yourself and recognize how different aspects within you relate to each other and influence your life experiences.
As your counsellor, I will help you develop skills and provide tools and strategies for you to work with and process the emotions and conditions causing you distress, both during sessions and out in the world. People’s experiences are as diverse as how they deal with them; therefore, we will explore together to find what works best for you. It is my intention that during our time together you will grow into self confidence and authenticity as you learn to transform and be present for the wounded parts of yourself.
Counselling Methods
Sara is an eclectic practitioner. She uses evidence-based strategies and tools from a variety of counselling methods and models, from Focusing-Oriented Therapy, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-based approaches, Gestalt, and others. Rather than focusing on one modality, Sara chooses strategies and tools that best fit the client’s developmental stage and context. In addition, Sara uses play-therapy and art strategies when working with children and youth.
